FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Representative Bill Konopnicki named League Champion

PHOENIX (July 8, 2010) – District 5 State Representative Bill Konopnicki (R-Safford) will be honored next month as a Legislative Champion by the League of Arizona Cites and Towns.  It is the League’s highest legislative award and the second time it has been awarded to Mr. Konopnicki.

His district has18 incorporated cities and towns—the largest number of any district in the state.  “Representative Konopnicki keeps in touch with the local leaders in his district and always is willing to listen to their concerns,” said Ken Strobeck, Executive Director of the League.  “He is an advocate for local decision making and for limiting the impact of state government on local citizens, whether that involves streamlining regulations or protecting local and state-distributed revenue,” he added.

As a rural legislator, Representative Konopnicki has been a strong and consistent voice advocating for the rights of small cities and towns.  He has opposed unfunded mandates on local government and has been a strong advocate on issues such as community health centers for rural parts of the state.  He has also championed economic development, transportation and job creation in rural Arizona.

Rep. Konopnicki is respected among his colleagues for his thoughtful, careful approach on the important issues that face our state.  As a businessman, he understands the importance of keeping Arizona competitive with low taxes and limited regulation, while still having excellent local services such as streets, utilities and public safety.

The League of Arizona Cities and Towns is pleased to be able to recognize Rep. Konopnicki for his outstanding service to all the people of the State of Arizona.
